The World Millennium Sword Spectacular Festival was the world's biggest gathering of sword dancers to date and took place in Whitby from the 26th to the 29th May 2000. It was the third and penultimate of the international Sword Spectaculars held on the Yorkshire coast in England.

About the event

The event was a great success, with over 40 teams attending. The 12 overseas teams included teams from the Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Italy, Norway, Spain and the USA. The English teams included the Flamborough team, who rarely perform outside their own village, and a team from Lockwood Primary School in Boosbeck, who have revived the traditional longsword dance of their village.

As well as street performances throughout the weekend in Whitby, Goathland and Robin Hood's Bay, there were workshops on both rapper and longsword, conference sessions, a parade through Whitby and a gala concert providing a showcase of all participating teams.
